Very Satisfied With My Reverse Treadmill
59 year old male who purchased this machine in hopes of getting a good workout indoors. I received this treadmill 5 weeks ago and I am very pleased with the quality of build and with how intense my workouts have been. If you are thinking about purchasing this treadmill, some things you need to know and they are all positive. I was very concerned about purchasing a non traditional treadmill but now I will never go back to using one. Once this reverse treadmill is delivered to you and once you get it all set up and you are ready to try it for the first time, IF YOU GO SLOW, USE IT CORRECTLY AND WITH THE RIGHT ATTITUDE AT FIRST, this thing will work your a** off in both forward and reverse, once you get the hang of it. You just have to get used to it, which truly doesn't take that long. Next, unlike a traditional treadmill, YOU will have to do ALL the work but this is the reason you get a treadmill, right? Third, I am 5' 11 and I weigh 270 pounds and this machine handles my weight with zero problems. Yes, if I were much taller, then I would want to consider something else but up to 6' 1" maybe 6'2" you should be ok. And at 270 pounds and with correct form, it does not shake/wobble/etc. It's very sturdy. The last positive review I want to share is that I don't have knee problems and I didn't purchase this treadmill for that reason alone. I was hoping it would serve as my "regular" all purpose treadmill where I could get the benefits of both forward and reverse walking and I am very happy with how it meets and exceeds my needs and with how intense my workouts can be. You only need a few minutes on this machine to realize you get more of a workout than you do walking outside. It feels like you are walking uphill. I read all the reviews before purchasing and watched all of the youtube videos and I just felt like the gentleman running the kneesovertoesguy channel was sincere and had my best interests in mind when sharing his information and experiences and I am pleased to say I still feel this way after this purchase.busymom

My husband and I both are rehabbing injured knees and this is a great machine. My physical therapist told me about the knees over toes exercises and they have been so helpful. So happy to have the treadmill now too!Monica Peters

I'm thrilled to have my Backward Treadmill
I've made a lot of gains quickly this fall using a sled. I'm a 59-year-old female, and my hip started hurting. With time and strengthening, I am fine, thanks to my XT4 all-terrain sled that I use on grass and gravel. We are now snowed in, and I knew I needed something inside. This is definitely working. I, of course, feel it in my quads, but at the same time, it is hitting my glutes and obviously hamstrings. My strength and health is worth the cost. I love that it doesn't take up much space. It's perfect and should last a long time. I took it up five steps while in the box and had it unboxed and assembled in about 15 minutes.Justin Brumfield

Life Changer
Best athletic product I've ever bought. 38 y/o, 20+ years of volleyball. Grade 3 patella/trochlear groove chondromalacia in both knees and grade 4 chondrol loss. I've been on it 5-6 night a week for a little over 6 months. This is the best my knees have felt in years. My knees should shudder just straightening them in bed at night, constant knee popping, and feeling the need to straighten my legs, these are all gone now. Pain going downstairs is mild compared to what it was.
2 months in I saw real changes in athleticism, now at 6 months and I haven't jumped like this in years. Excited to see where I'm at in another year.
This treadmill gave me my belief back. Because I've seen real changes I went ahead and bought the nordic, slantboard, sled and back extension as well. I'm all in.
Thank you ATG, you've given me my hope back and a return to the athleticism I didn't believe I could get back, this has felt like a cheat code.Customer

Im sure once Im able to assemble, it will be awesome. I feel misled by minimal assembly required. It will be unassembled until someone younger and stronger can assist. UPDATE As of 6/23/25, my Backward treadmill is assembled, and I have done my first of many 10 min.sessions. THANK YOU ATG for your awesome customer service and product. I can't wait to update you on the upcoming improvement of my knees.

Wish it had wheels
Works as it should. I’ve had it for a few months now. It was easy to assemble. Two upgrades to make this perfect for your home gym.
1.Wheels to move it out of the way, currently I have to drag it when I want to move in my fan bike.
2.Instead of the screw and knob system to fold the treadmill up switch to a spring loaded pin similar to my rouge fan bike seat or like the locking pin on the west side barbell reverse hyper.
Other than those two small wish list items I do try to use this every 2nd day.
I’m close to 50 and want to build up my flexibility and knee strength.Cornée Alsemgeest

Awesome, Simple and Very Effective
I have the backward treadmill for almost 5 months now, use it daily and as a super 10 minute warmup (and for forward walking/running as well :D :P) for training days ^^ I'm from the Netherlands, shipping was super (FedEx) and it was definitely worth the cost !!Andrew Alvarez

So far so good! It was a little tougher to put to together than I expected just because it’s installed at an incline and is a bit heavy. Still getting the feel for it and aligning it once in awhile. I wish it came with extra lubricant because I feel like it does come pretty sticky and I’m afraid I’ll run out.

Great and timely delivery. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly it shipped. The packaging was sturdy, and assembly was straightforward and the directions were easy to follow. The backward treadmill is sturdy, the whole family uses it regularly - it’s become a staple for our workouts.

This is the third ATG product I’ve purchased. Extremely light yet stable, but I wish the pad was adjustable, and while I realize the incline was necessary, I wish it could be modified as well. I also wish there were wheels, and the side handles, uprights could be folded away.
Having said all that, I still gave it five stars. It’s the most compact manual treadmill that just works. It does exactly what it says it will do and does it very well. With this you pay for what you get and will be satisfied.

Super easy to set up and does not take up a lot of space. I use it everyday despite my program only having me warm up with a sled 3 times a week. If I am watching a soccer game or listening to a podcast ill adjust the resistance and just walk backwards. I figure its better then sitting down for long periods of time.
In terms of actually working out it is amazing. My right knee for the first two weeks was a little sore but I think its because I have never pushed my knee in such a positive way. My knee is currently feeling stable, my quads are loving it, and if you follow Ben's routine for training cardio it literally feels like you're running hills (and is amazing).
The only thing I worry about is wear and tear on the belt if I increase the resistance too much. As of right now there is 0 signs of wear and tear and I think as long as I keep it lubed up that there won't be any problems.
Its pricey but 100% worth every $$$. I would be surprised if these are not in every gym one day.

Overall happy! Thoughts:
Oil bottle has 2 seals in it. Belt tensioning: "tighten" a side pulls it out toward you. Imagine a rod: tighten left and loosen right is like "/" from above, so belt goes right.
Will feel awkward at first. Loose tension: weight is more than tension, so will start sliding forward w/o holding on. If lean back, bend your knees, or go faster, leverage makes you fall back, feeling slippery. Stay upright and push handles forward to keep in place. Put weight on arms to keep up in more leveraged pos. High tension: can rest against cushion with no hands, or push the handles back to keep in place. I like cushion with slower walking and more forward (holding on) to go faster.
Unstick from stationary: can start both feet together. More friction at the edges of belt, so keep feet near center. Push heel at the end to keep the momentum for your other foot. Can use it for sled pushing as well.
To improve: better knob, transport wheels, and wish it was an inch or two wider.

Assembly booklet print is really small but got an assist from a customer that did an assembly/review video which made it super easy. Itsca little awkward (I'm 5'4) so the butt pad is not as functional as it seems to be for taller people. It takes a few attempts to get used to that is hindered by sudden stiffness in the belt making it difficult to maintain rhythm. That said, so far I find that it does exactly what it was created for. Unlike pricier standard treadmills, it allows for incremental use that doesn't take a significant amount of time, merely effort to get results that are more important than just looking ripped.

Very well designed. It was easy to assemble. If you can’t have a sled in your gym, this is the best option. I’m a marathon runner. This is a great product if you suffer from patella tendinitis or you need to better develop quads and VMO for speed or hills. I use this everyday.

Great design. It works for the purpose it was intended for. It takes a short time to get the tension adjusted just right, then get used to backwards walking form, so the walking cadence is consistently the same.

Not for tall people
Treadmill is ok but if you're tall, I'm 6,6 ft and treadmill is slim, not wide and not very heavy. Description of this item should've been better. I feel like it wasn't described as well and it's not super easy putting back in the box.Knee Pain

Rickety and shoddy
Heavy materials so I assumed sturdy, but as I used it, it was super rickety. My wife was cracking up given the noises this thing was making as it shook. I'm medium height and weight, so not a big guy, but something isn't right here. I assembled it as outlined, tightened all the bolts, checked it many times over, etc., so I feel pretty confident this isn't user error.
I'm a big fan of KOT and have recommended the program to several people. It's why I ordered this through ATG - but this is an iteration (or several) too early / not market readyStuart Haro

Genuinely Discouraged :(
Hello reaching out because I’m truly disappointed with my purchase of the Backward Treadmill.
I bought this product after doing a lot of research and with real hope that it would help me as a young athlete dealing with knee pain. I’m doing everything I can to improve get back to sports so this was a meaningful purchase for me.
Unfortunately the treadmill has been a let down. It is much louder than expected, does not feel as smooth or stable as I thought (tightened every screw but still feels like it’s about to drop) and overall quality not up to par with what I expected. In addition one of the screws was missing so I’m unable to fold the treadmill for space in my apartment. One of the rubber pieces that prevents scratching my floor is also missing, ugh frustrated to say the least.
Have purchased other products like the slant board since my 2023 surgery that I love but this one just did not hit the same, simply not satisfied. Unlucky me I guess!Michael

My Knees Got Stronger Carrying It Back to the Corner
I bought the ATG backwards treadmill because I love Ben Patrick’s stuff and figured this thing, along with my other training, would turn my knees into titanium hinges.
Instead it turned my patience into dust.
First off, I’m 6′3″ and over 200 pounds for reference, and walking on this thing feels like doing balance drills on a folding ironing board. The frame flexes enough that I briefly wondered if the workout was actually “ankle stability training.”
And when you actually start walking on it, the whole thing creaks like a haunted house floorboard. Every step sounds like the treadmill is filing a formal complaint with management. I even attached a video because it honestly sounds like the machine is begging me to stop. Yes, I have checked and tightened every possible connection point too!
Then came today’s highlight.
I tried moving the treadmill across the floor. Not up stairs. Not across gravel. Across the flat floor.
Two of the footers immediately fell off.
Two of the end caps also decided they had dreams of freedom and joined them.
So now my treadmill leaves a trail of parts behind it like it’s marking its own territory.
The resistance system is also incredible. Not in a good way. It’s just a knob. You turn it and… something happens. Maybe more resistance. Maybe less. Maybe nothing. There are no numbers, no markings, no clue where you are.
If two people use the treadmill, good luck. You’ll both be guessing like you’re cracking a safe. I didn't realize how obnoxious this would be until I used it.
Moving it is also a workout because there are no wheels. So every time you want to move it you basically deadlift a small bridge.
Yes, it folds up, but the folding mechanism requires unscrewing and screwing a long pin every single time. I feel like I’m assembling IKEA furniture before every workout.
The belt also refuses to stay aligned. I followed the instructions and tried adjusting it, but it still wanders around like it’s sightseeing.
Honestly, if I could go back in time I would just buy a cheap treadmill and walk backwards on that while stacking books under the front.
Or maybe try the Sled Shred from the Tib Bar guy. I haven’t tried it, but at this point I’d trust a wooden plank with a rope attached.
I was genuinely excited for this thing. I bought the ATG shoes, I follow the program, I was ready to become a backwards-walking legend.
Instead I got a wobbly treadmill that slowly disassembles itself.
Five stars for knee rehab philosophy.
One star for the treadmill.
...but what do I know, I’m just a guy on the internet walking backwards.Jonnie

Huge waste of money
Your local high school could build a better treadmill. Super janky build. The adjust for the treadmill track to align is a horrible system. When you start to walk the whole thing rattles and moves. The system for storing it upright is so cheap. This has to be one of my worst purchases I’ve ever made. The idea of this was so great and I expected so much but this product is absolute trash for the money.
