Free Squat Seminar with Alan Bishop

The basics, strategic coaching tips, and advanced options

If you’ve read my articles, then the following progressions will be familiar to you.

What’s unique today is that you’re going to see them coached by Alan Bishop, the head strength coach for the University of Houston men’s basketball team.

They’re one of just five teams in modern history to go to the Sweet 16 (or further) 6 straight times.

And they’ve done so with the fewest highly-rated recruits of any team that’s been so consistently successful!

As a former high school and college player myself, as well as someone who’s now coached top players at all levels, including the NBA, my honest estimation is that 99% of basketball teams don’t squat low.

And I have nothing negative to say about that!

I only have POSITIVE solutions to share, as I’ve been doing in articles and videos for over 7 years.

And today, you get to see how Alan uses this style of training with his team!

1. While building the deep squat, Alan concurrently coaches a deep split squat.

(The deep split squat is made easier by elevating the front foot, and harder by lowering it. You can also add load for further difficulty.)

2. Alan progresses the squat from farther to closer to the body, as well as from lighter to heavier.

3. Alan uses heel elevation on squats to help develop the legs and knees, while using heel down on the split squat to help develop ankle mobility.

There you go!

Those are his basics.

To take a deep dive into this, you can see it in action in this video: Full Squat Seminar With Alan Bishop, U Houston Men’s Basketball Head Strength Coach! - YouTube, titled by section so you can easily navigate between the basics, strategic coaching tips, and advanced options.

As a basketball player, I grew up consistently prevented from knee over toes training. That’s why it’s a full-circle moment for me to now provide a resource helping educate players and coaches on how to train your knee over your toes, with one of the most successful basketball strength coaches of all time!

P.S. Some of you may recognize my close friend Ben Clarfield in the photos above. Ben runs a successful personal training gym in Toronto, and he’s in charge of the professional quality of our ATG-certified coaches. Together, we’re setting up an ATG gym in Austin, Texas. Austin makes a good central location for ATG meetups, and I plan to be back in a few months for the opening to hang out, train, and coach anyone who attends. I’ll be sure to give you a heads-up beforehand! And I don’t want you to expect anything fancy. The gym will be clean and simple, with passionate, competent coaches who intend to help people achieve life-changing results!
